Being an openly transgender woman and a transgender activist, I am on a mission to change the way we view and think about gender and gender-assignment!
Through public speaking engagements, my media appearances, social media and transgender awareness training courses my focus is to reach out to people who may be questioning/exploring their gender identity and gender expression, or have loved ones who may not fit into a gender-assigned box, to reassure them and to lead by example that everyone fits and belongs on a spectrum of gender identity.
One of my most prominent goals is to help educate the general public. The more we understand the less we fear, and I want our society to understand non-cis and transgender people more clearly. Not everyone fits into a gender-assigned box, and not everyone belongs in the box assigned to them at birth. I fit nicely in our societies’ construct of box “B”, and I am fine with that, but I am privileged to fit into that box. Moving my gender-expression and gender-performance from box “A” to box “B” is my transition, or why I use the label transgender woman.
I hope that one day, transgender and non-cis people are treated by society in the way they should be treated, you know, like people!
